Shoulder Mount

Also known as: Shouldermount

Climbs Intermediate

What is the Shoulder Mount?

In the shoulder mount you use momentum from a climb to bring the body into a partial invert, with the body weight supported at the shoulder area on the pole. It is often the first invert move learned, and it prepares the body for further inverted moves.

How to do the Shoulder Mount

  1. Climb the pole to a comfortable height and grip it with both hands.

  2. Fold one leg around the pole to create an additional grip point.

  3. Give a controlled momentum that carries the body toward an inverted direction.

  4. Place your shoulder gently on the pole while maintaining your hand grip.

  5. Stabilise your legs and core before releasing anything from your hands.

  6. Come back down with full control, reversing the way you entered.

Common Mistakes

  • Momentum that is too strong and not controlled during the transition.
  • Releasing a hand before the shoulder is truly stable on the pole.
  • A loose core that causes a loss of shape in the invert.
