Tuck Climb

Climbs Intermediate

What is the Tuck Climb?

In the tuck climb the knees fold close to the chest on each climbing cycle, which shortens the distance the hands need to travel and makes the climb more efficient. It builds on the basic climb and adds efficiency and speed.

How to do the Tuck Climb

  1. Begin as in a basic climb, with a two-hand grip and leg pressure.

  2. Fold your knees close to your chest as you lift your legs.

  3. Press with your feet to lock your body in the higher position.

  4. Move your hands up while keeping your core engaged.

  5. Release the leg lock and repeat the tuck on the next cycle.

  6. Continue at a steady pace to your desired height.

Common Mistakes

  • A partial tuck of the knees that does not shorten the distance enough.
  • Losing your leg grip during the tuck.
  • Speed that prevents control on each cycle.
