Core Strength for Inverts

Conditioning Intermediate

What is the Core Strength for Inverts?

Core strength for inverts focuses on the abdominal and lower-torso muscles, which are engaged to lift the legs with control when entering an invert. Regular core practice improves your ability to enter inverts more smoothly and safely.

How to do the Core Strength for Inverts

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet on the floor.

  2. Engage your abdominal muscles and press your lower back into the floor.

  3. Slowly lift your legs while keeping your back in contact with the floor.

  4. Hold the position while breathing calmly.

  5. Lower your legs slowly and with control.

  6. Repeat at a pace that lets you keep correct technique.

Common Mistakes

  • Lifting the legs too quickly, which lifts the back off the floor.
  • Holding your breath during the engagement.
  • Using the strength of your legs instead of your core.
