Cradle Spin

Also known as: Reverse Grip

Spins Intermediate

What is the Cradle Spin?

The cradle spin is performed with a reverse grip on the pole, one that creates a slightly backward-leaning body line during the spin, similar to a rocking cradle. It requires good familiarity with different grips and so is usually learned after the basic spins.

How to do the Cradle Spin

  1. Grip the pole with one hand in a standard grip and the other in a reverse grip, palm facing up.

  2. Stand at a slight angle to the pole and push off your legs to begin the spin.

  3. Let your body lean slightly backward while keeping the reverse grip stable.

  4. Keep your legs together and relaxed during the spin.

  5. Hold the lean angle steady until the momentum ends.

  6. Gradually return to standing upright and land under control.

Common Mistakes

  • A reverse grip that is too loose, which risks your stability.
  • Leaning back too sharply without core control.
  • Switching between grips too quickly without checking stability.
