Pole Sit

Pole Sits Beginner

What is the Pole Sit?

The pole sit is a resting pose in which the body's weight is supported by the legs pressing on the pole, without the need for a strong hand grip. It is a useful pose for recovering between moves and for practising height control.

How to do the Pole Sit

  1. Climb or stand at a comfortable height on the pole.

  2. Press with one thigh and leg around the pole to create a support point.

  3. Rest your seat on the support point you have created.

  4. Gradually release some of the load from your hands.

  5. Keep your back straight and your breathing calm.

  6. Come down from the sit back to a full hand grip before changing pose.

Common Mistakes

  • Releasing your hands too quickly before the support point is stable.
  • Sitting too low, which puts uncomfortable load on the leg.
  • A rounded back instead of upright, which hurts the comfort of the pose.
