Side Sit

Pole Sits Beginner

What is the Side Sit?

In the side sit both legs are positioned together on one side of the pole, creating a longer, more elegant body line than the basic sit. It is usually learned right after the pole sit feels stable.

How to do the Side Sit

  1. Begin from a pole sit with a stable leg support point.

  2. Rotate your torso slightly to the side while maintaining the support.

  3. Bring your other leg toward the first, both facing the same direction.

  4. Keep your legs together and your toes pointed.

  5. Hold the pose while breathing calmly.

  6. Gradually return to a centred sit before coming down or moving on.

Common Mistakes

  • Legs that open apart instead of staying together.
  • Rotating the torso too quickly, which hurts the stability of the support point.
  • Raised shoulders instead of relaxed ones.
