Back Hook Spin
Also known as: Back Hook
What is the Back Hook Spin?
In the back hook spin, it is the back leg that curves around the pole and drives the spin, which calls for a little more spatial awareness than the front hook. It is another basic spin that widens your range of entries into movement around the pole.
How to do the Back Hook Spin
-
Stand beside the pole with your back toward the direction of the spin.
-
Grip the pole with both hands and give a light push off your legs.
-
Curve your back leg around the pole, behind your body.
-
Keep your front leg extended and relaxed during the spin.
-
Hold your gaze forward to keep your balance.
-
Land on both feet as the spin finishes.
Common Mistakes
- Turning your whole body the wrong way before starting the spin.
- Gripping too weakly, which causes you to lose contact with the pole.
- Raising your shoulders, which disrupts the flow of the spin.
