Floor Roll
Floorwork Beginner
What is the Floor Roll?
The floor roll is a move in which the body travels in a controlled way from standing to the floor, through a sequence of contact points between the hands and body. It is a basic transition move that adds flow between standing moves and floorwork.
How to do the Floor Roll
-
Stand in a stable stance with your feet shoulder-width apart.
-
Bend your knees and place your hands on the floor in front of you.
-
Lower your body slowly, one vertebra at a time.
-
Roll onto your side or back on the floor with a soft movement.
-
Keep your muscles engaged throughout the descent.
-
Finish in a stable floor position of your choice.
Common Mistakes
- Descending too quickly instead of with control.
- Landing directly on your tailbone instead of rolling softly.
- A loose core that causes a loss of control on the way down.
